San Antonio-based Taco Cabana unveils frozen candy cane margaritas, because why not?

click to enlarge Courtesy Taco CabanaWhen we wrote about SA-born Taco Cabanaโ€™s Pumpkin Spice margarita back in October , we thought it would be the weirdest, most unnecessary margarita flavor weโ€™d see this holiday season.Turns out we were wrong.Starting Tuesday, TC locations across Texas will dole out a series of holiday-inspired beverages, including a rum tea punch, cinnamon-spiced cafe de olla and two new margarita flavors: apple spice and candy cane. Ho ho ho.The new rum tea punch is served hot and made with Bacardi Rum, while the non-alcoholic cafe de olla โ€” loosely based on a traditional Mexican favorite โ€” features hints of sugar and cinnamon.Meanwhile, the apple spice and candy cane margaritas probably taste exactly how they sound. Which means they'll undoubtedly appeal to some sweet-toothed holiday imbibers and elicit gags of revulsion from others. The new beverages all sell for $3 at participating Texas Taco Cabana locations.

Hereโ€™s where to get your fix in San Antonio on National Pumpkin Spice Day

click to enlarge Courtesy Bakery LorrainePumpkin Spice โ€” the unmistakable blend of cinnamon, nutmeg and only sometimes actual pumpkin thatโ€™s become synonymous with autumn and sweater weather โ€” is having its day today. And why not have a National Pumpkin Spice Day? (832) 413-1037,This nationally recognized and locally based chain is offering a pumpkin spice macaron at all four Texas locations. The shell of each macaron is seasoned with a house-made pumpkin spice blend and topped with roasted pumpkin seeds. A cream cheese buttercream sits between the shells, evoking the creaminess of a pumpkin roulade. The beloved Mexican food restaurants have brought pumpkin tres leches back for the season, boasting dense, decadent inner layers and a light, fluffy topping. When the recipe hails from the woman who helped introduce tres leches cake to SA in the late eighties, you know itโ€™s good.
