American cyclist suspended by team after pro-Trump comments
GENEVA โ American cyclist Quinn Simmons was suspended by the Trek-Segafredo team on Thursday after posting antagonistic comments on social media in support of President Donald Trump. The 2019 junior road race world champion replied to a journalist from the Netherlands who had criticized Trump on Twitter. Trek-Segafredo, an American team formerly known as RadioSchack-Nissan, later issued a second statement quoting Simmons as saying that he did not mean for the tweets to be offensive. โTo those who found the color of the emoji racist, I can promise that I did not mean for it to be interpreted that way," Simmons said. I only ask the same.โThe team added that Simmons โwas not suspended because of his political views.
Salvation Army deploys team to feed first responders, residents impacted by Hurricane Laura
BEAUMONT, Texas โ A two-man team in a canteen truck is heading to Beaumont, Texas to assist in the Hurricane Laura aftermath. The team was deployed through the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Texas Division in New Braunfels. Officials said the team will serve food to first responders and residents impacted by the storm. San Antonio Fire Department MIH team to get support as coronavirus pandemic role grows
San Antonio โ A San Antonio Fire Department unit that has been on the front lines of the cityโs coronavirus pandemic will be getting reinforcements. The role of the MIH team has expanded to include helping test at nursing homes, Haven for Hope, walk-up testing sites and other cities. When people began returning to San Antonio from COVID-19 hot zones, though, the MIH team would send one or two people to get testing samples. If that happens, the MIH team can come by their home to check them out. City announces two new walk-up COVID-19 testing sites opening ThursdayโSo we're trying to limit the exposure into the hospital system if it's not necessary,โ Velasquez said.
