The Chanclas won two of the three games played at Wolff Stadium before the Bombers returned home to Travis Field and swept San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO – Baseball has returned to Wolff Stadium in the form of the Texas Collegiate League – a wooden bat league comprised of college players and the Missions are fielding The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio with former local standouts. The three months without school or conference-sponsored baseball events has been a difficult challenge for many of the players to navigate and they are grateful for the opportunity to play summer ball. Many of the players grew up playing against one another and look forward to suiting up for the same team. “It’s nice to see everybody that’s made it into college and made it to the upper levels to come back together and play again for San Antonio.”Playing for an organization tied to the San Antonio Missions and at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium holds additional meaning for local players. “Ever since I was a little kid, I’d always watch the San Antonio Missions and Chanclas and everything and I’d always dreamed about being on this field and playing in a professional atmosphere and everything,” Porter said.

SAN ANTONIO – The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio announced the signing of four players, all with ties to the city, to the Texas Collegiate League roster on Tuesday. Flying Chanclas Return June 30Garrett, an infielder, was selected by Washington in the 32nd round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft. Brandon, also an infielder, played in six games during the 2020 season for Grayson College. San Antonio will open the 2020 TCL season in Amarillo with a three-game set from June 30-July 2.

Now, baseball is returning to Wolff Stadium as Major League Baseball owners and players continue to fight on when and how to begin the 2020 season. Say hello to the Texas Collegiate League, a wooden bat league made up of college sophomore, junior and senior baseball players, many who didn’t get to compete this spring due to COVID-19. That mean’s we could see baseball players from UTSA, UIW, etc. Below you will find a few of the new procedures put in place at Wolff Stadium.
