Driver hospitalized after vehicle crash near Stone Oak Parkway

Accident was reported just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – A driver is in the hospital following a vehicle crash near Stone Oak early Tuesday morning, San Antonio police said.

The crash was reported just before 1:30 a.m. on Loop 1604 near Stone Oak Parkway.

According to police, the driver was speeding when they lost control and hit a guardrail. That's when, police said, the car went airborne off a 40-foot bridge before finally hitting a pillar.

Officials said the fire department had to cut the man out of his car. He was taken to University Hospital for his injuries.

Police said they believe alcohol played a factor in the crash. No one else was hurt.
