Officials ID 13-year-old boy killed by gunshot to head; authorities still investigating

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – UPDATE: A 13-year-old boy who died after being shot in the head with a rifle has been identified as Ignacio Romo, Jr., according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

Authorities are still trying to determine the circumstances around the incident.

"At this time no arrests have been made in this case, and the investigation is ongoing as to what specifically occurred in the residence leading up to the shooting," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office told KSAT on Monday.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to be an accidental fatal shooting Saturday involving two juvenile males on San Antonio's North Side.

Deputies were called to the 900 block of Pine Eagle Lane around 3:15 p.m. for a shooting in an RV.

A deputy on the scene said two juvenile males were playing with a gun when it went off, striking one of the boys in the head. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the other one was detained for questioning.

Deputies have not released the ages of the boys involved.

The investigation was ongoing Saturday.
