SAPD: Man stalked ex-girlfriend, tampered with car

William Echevarria, 22, arrested on stalking charge

SAN ANTONIO – A 22-year-old suspect identified as William Echevarria is accused of stalking a woman who told San Antonio police that she no longer wanted anything to do with him.

According to an arrest affidavit, the reported unwanted contact included Echevarria showing up at a hospital and trying to stop the woman from getting treatment; tampering with her car; and breaking into her home.

The affidavit stated that the woman filed several reports with police during a two week period this month.

It stated that she told police that she and Echevarria had dated, but she broke up with him in early December due to his aggressive behavior.

She said after one incident that required her to get medical treatment, Echevarria suddenly showed up at the hospital parking lot and tried to use his car to block her from seeking that medical help, the affidavit stated.

The woman spoke with detectives on Dec. 23 and showed them several text messages in which Echevarria allegedly tried to convince her to make false statements, the affidavit stated.

It stated that on the following day, Christmas Eve, a witness saw Echevarria underneath the woman's car, tampering with it.

The woman told police she was too afraid to go outside, but that Echevarria then came into her home uninvited, the affidavit stated.

Although she called police, the suspect already had left the scene when officers arrived, the affidavit stated.

Echevarria was booked into jail on Tuesday on a stalking charge.
