14-year-old girl fatally shot at garage party; suspect arrested

Melody Cerros, 15, died Tuesday; Ryan Rodriguez, 19, charged with manslaughter

SAN ANTONIO – A 14-year-old girl was fatally wounded and the suspected shooter was arrested in a shooting late Tuesday night on the city's Northwest Side.

Melody Cerros was shot and killed at a garage party, Officer Doug Greene, a San Antonio police spokesman, said.

Several teens attended the party, despite none of them living in the home, Greene said. The homeowner, who was unaware of the party and was fast asleep in the living room, woke up to the sound of a gunshot.

"One of the teenagers had a handgun, with the understanding that it was not loaded," Greene said. "He allegedly pointed it at the victim, pulled the trigger and fired the shot."

Melody died at the scene.

Ryan Rodriguez, 19, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He was being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
