Brennan teacher arrested on sex charges involving student

Darrell Harris charged with improper relationship between educator, student

SAN ANTONIO – A Brennan High School JROTC instructor was arrested on charges that he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said that a sheriff's deputy on Sunday saw a suspicious vehicle parked in the 2300 block of Canthree.

When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, the car sped off and led the lawman on a brief pursuit, Keith said. During the pursuit, the deputy noticed a teenage girl in the back seat, putting on her clothes, Keith said.

Darrell Harris, 48, who was driving the car, told the deputy that he was an ROTC instructor, and the child was a student, Keith said.

The child was taken to a hospital for evaluation, where she told employees that she and Harris had sex several times since May, Keith said.

Harris was arrested in Cibolo and charged with improper relationship between educator and student.

He is being held in the Guadalupe County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Harris has been on administrative leave since Tuesday, Northside Independent School District spokesman Pascual Gonzalez said.
