Driver had outstanding warrants, faces new felony charges

SAN ANTONIO – A chase involving Texas Department of Public Safety troopers came to a crashing halt just east of downtown Friday night.

DPS officials said a trooper tried to make a traffic stop on Southwest Military, but the driver sped off.

The chase went through the South Side to Interstate 35 and Theo Avenue and ended around 8 p.m. when the suspect crashed into a family at South Cherry Street and Steves Avenue.

The family was shaken up but not hurt.

Troopers caught the driver, but a passenger in the vehicle ran from the crash.

DPS said the driver had outstanding warrants and faces new felony charges.
