SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested for fatally shooting a woman after a fight in an East Side bar in September, records show.

Rangel Guadalupe Clemente, 39, was booked Wednesday on murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges, according to Bexar County Jail records.

He is accused of shooting Samantha Gonzales, 27, in the head outside a bar in the 1500 block of South Gevers Street on Sept. 26. Gonzales was found dead in the back seat of a car nearby in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue.

San Antonio police said Gonzales and the group she was with were involved in a fight at the bar just moments before the shooting.

The group said they were leaving the bar and driving away after the fight when someone opened fire. The vehicle they were riding in had several bullet holes, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Surveillance footage from the scene showed multiple people in the parking lot running away as someone fired gunshots at the vehicle.

One witness said he didn’t see who opened fire but believed it was Clemente, police said.

Another witness identified Clemente as the shooter but changed his statement “due to fear of retaliation,” the affidavit states. The witness then said another man was the suspect, but police believe the second man he named wasn’t involved.

The affidavit states a third witness identified Clemente as the shooter.

Investigators said Clemente did not have an identification card or driver’s license but he had identified himself to the police before.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on Wednesday. He is facing five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His bond is set at $500,000.
