Witness: 'I looked out the window and saw a plane coming down to the ground'

JBSA-Randolph Air Force trainer jet crashes in field near Rolling Oaks Mall

SAN ANTONIO – A couple who lives on a ranch near Rolling Oaks Mall ran to the rescue Tuesday afternoon after they witnessed a military plane crash on their property.

"I looked out the window and saw a plane coming down to the ground," said Brandi Williams, who lives on the Circle Dot Ranch on Nacogdoches Road near Evans Road with her husband, Chris Lowell.

Lowell was outside his home around 3:30 p.m. when he saw the two pilots from JBSA-Randolph eject from their T-6A jet.

"I seen the plane heading towards Nacogdoches Road and the two ejected, landed on our property," he said. "I checked to see if they were OK, to see if they needed anything. One pilot was on the plane with his commander."

The couple said the pilots seemed in control and almost unfazed by what happened. They were taken to the clinic at Randolph to be treated for minor injuries.

All flying training at Randolph has been suspended until further notice.

There is no word on what caused the crash.

According to Military.com, the T-6A Texan II is an aircraft for student and instructor pilots.

The T-6A Texan II was indefinitely grounded earlier this year due to concerns about hypoxia and "unexplained physiological events," the military publication reported.

Use of that plane model was later reinstated.
