Government revises 4th quarter GDP up slightly to 4.3%
GDP in the October-December quarter rose from an estimated rate last month of 4.1%, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. AdEconomists believe all the government relief measures will boost GDP in the current January-March quarter to 5% or higher. Boussour forecast GDP growth for the full year of 7% with annualized growth rates close to 10% in the spring and summer. GDP fell at an annual rate of 5% in the first quarter of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic ended the country's record-long economic expansion, which was in its 11th year. GDP plunged by a record 31.4% rate in the April-June quarter and then rebounded by a record rate of 33.4% in the third quarter before slowing to the 4.3% gain in the fourth quarter.

Orders had been rising for nine consecutive months, including a sizable 3.5% jump in January, according to the Commerce Department. The category that covers business investment dropped 0.8% in February following solid gains of 0.6% in January and 1.5% in December. AdThe report Wednesday showed that excluding transportation, orders would still have fallen by 0.9% in February.

Economists had expected total orders would post a stronger advance of around 1% in December but noted that the overall gain was held back by the big drop in aircraft orders. Excluding transportation orders, total orders rose 0.7% in December, and that followed a 0.8% rise in November. โThe December data are signaling still strong but slower growth in both business investment and equipment spending.โ

Home Depot agrees to $17.5m settlement in 2014 data breach

BOSTON โ Home Depot has reached a $17.5 million settlement with the attorney generals of 46 states and the District of Columbia over a 2014 data breach that exposed the payment card information of some 40 million customers. The Massachusetts Attorney Generalโs office detailed the settlement in a statement Tuesday, saying Home Depot agreed under its terms to employ a full-time chief information security officer among other measures. Cybercriminals hacked into Home Depotโs self-checkout point-of-sale systems using a third-party vendorโs username and password and installed malware that harvested the customer data from April through September 2014.
Retired SAPD detective who pulled gun on man outside Home Depot arrested, released on bond
SAN ANTONIO โ Update:A former San Antonio police detective seen on video pointing a gun at a man during an altercation outside a far West Side Home Depot was arrested Friday evening. The man told the Defenders earlier this month that he found the phone and an ID in the street in a neighborhood. The phoneโs GPS led them to a store near Galm Road and Culebra Road, according to the daughterโs statement to police. She said that the man told her that โshe was ungrateful and to get back into her vehicle,โ according to the report. The man told police that he threw the womanโs phone and drove off until he arrived at the Home Depot.

When the leaders of two organizations found out she had been living in a shed, they stepped up immediately. Cotungo heard about the homeless veteranโs situation right after a couple from Missouri generously donated a recreation vehicle to Adapt-A-Vet. "They're couch-surfing women, living in their cars. They're not living out on the streets often times, so it's hard to get an account of how many homeless women veterans there are," Hart said.
