To raise awareness for opioid addiction, Methodist Healthcare is hosting a “Crush the Crisis” opioid take back day on Nov. 7. Community members are invited to safely and anonymously dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. For every 10 suspected overdoses reported to the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) in May 2019, 14 overdoses were reported in May 2020. How the take-back day will workIn partnership with San Antonio Police Department detectives, Methodist Healthcare staff will man drive-thru locations at three Methodist facilities at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant, Methodist Hospital Northeast and Metropolitan Methodist Emergency Center.

Dr. Diana Henderson, chief medical officer for Methodist Hospital Metropolitian, reassured the public that hospitals are a safe place -- and are highly sanitized. Some medical conditions are really important to have treated within one hour of beginning symptoms, such as heart attacks and strokes, Henderson said. Its really important to get to the emergency room right away. 3: Why is it so important to wear a mask, and when should you wear one? Wearing a mask is so important for decreasing the spread of COVID-19, Henderson said.

Dr. Adam Blanchette, a medical director at Methodist Healthcare, answered commonly asked questions about stroke symptoms and treatment, in the event you or someone you love encounters a medical emergency that might be a stroke. BE FAST, listed below, is the acronym to remember should you need to identify stroke symptoms in someone. Nationally, the number of people seeking emergency treatment for things other than COVID-19 is down, especially for stroke and heart attacks. Dial 9-1-1 if you or someone you know meets the "BE FAST stroke symptoms, and treat it like a medical emergency.

Nurses representing Methodist Children’s Hospital are standing by 24/7 to personally assist you with medical advice concerning your child when they are sick.

Don’t wait to be seen for a medical emergency, health care officials warn

SAN ANTONIO – While the community continues to stay at home to stop the spread of COVID-19, it’s also important to seek a medical professional in a medical emergency. Dr. Paul Hancock, chief medical officer at Methodist Healthcare, pointed out that its emergency rooms are seeing fewer patients due to “fear” surrounding the coronavirus. "We are seeing fewer heart-related illnesses, fewer strokes,” Hancock said. Anyone who enters into patient care areas will be carefully screened, and masks provided to those who need them. Please do not wait to be seen during a medical emergency.
