San Antonio home sales boom in 2020 in spite of pandemic
SAN ANTONIO – In the year of staying at home, you may as well buy one, too. That seemed to be the mindset in 2020, as buyers snapped up homes in the area in record-busting numbers. For the year, 38,448 homes sold in San Antonio and surrounding communities for an 11% increase over 2019, according to new numbers released by the San Antonio Board of Realtors. In Bexar County alone, sales were up 11.2%, a considerably larger increase than what Travis, Harris and Dallas counties saw. The average price of homes sold in 2020 was $294,106, a 9% percent increase over the previous year.

October sales were 20% higher than the same time last year, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR). “They want land and certainly bigger homes,” he said. The average price of homes sold in October was $309,513, a 13% increase over last year. Homes sold in October were on the market an average of 49 days, compared to 58 days in 2019. There have been 38,655 new listings in San Antonio in 2020, and the average price of homes sold this year is $290,066, according to SABOR.
Lower interest rates entice San Antonio homebuyers during the pandemic
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio home-buying market seems to have thumbed its nose at the pandemic and economic fallout as sales for this year exceeded last year by 5%, according to figures from the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR). After a spring cooldown, summer home sales got hot. “I think one of the biggest reasons is interest rates,” said SABOR Chairwoman Kim Bragman. We’re seeing most loans under 3%.”Mortgage rates this week averaged 2.87% for a conventional 30-year fixed loan. Peak season simply shifted from spring to summer, Bragman said.
