3-vehicle accident closes Loop 1604 on NE Side for several hours

18-wheeler jackknifes on highway

SAN ANTONIOUPDATE: Eastbound Loop 1604 at Green Mountain Road has reopened following an 18-wheeler accident, San Antonio police said Tuesday.

Police said an 18-wheeler with scrap metal on the back of the flatbed was going too fast and jackknifed just after 2 a.m. on the Northeast Side highway.

SAPD said the back of the truck hit a concrete median breaking the wall, before two other cars hit the truck. A third car went off the highway and down a grassy embankment toward the access road.

One of the drivers involved in the accident, a woman, was taken to a hospital to get checked out but did not appear to have any serious injuries. No one else was hurt, police said.

All traffic as a result of the accident had to exit to a nearby access road.

A major accident has closed eastbound Loop 1604 at Green Mountain Road, San Antonio police said Tuesday.

Officials say the highway at the soonest could open within an hour, so commuters should still expect long delays in the area.

Police advise all motorists to find an alternate route if possible, and suggest using Highway 281 south to Wurzbach Parkway before heading over to Interstate 35.

We'll let you know when the roadway has cleared up.
