Actor Ricardo Chavira shares his Texas connection to the Selena legacy
SAN ANTONIO โ Born the same year as the Tejano superstar, and being from south Texas, Ricardo Chavira knows the power of Selenaโs legacy. One week after the Netflix series, based on the Selena Quintanilla-Perez family story, premiered, itโs held the number one spot in over 150 countries. โGrowing up in San Antonio, Iโd read in the paper, San Antonio Express News or The San Antonio Light even, that she had a concert in Rosedale Park and there she was accepting an award at the Tejano Music Awards at the convention center in San Antonio,โ Chavira described his memories of Selenaโs early fame. As many learned in the movie, and now in the Netflix series, Selena and her siblings grew up with English as their first language, something Chavira can relate to. The University of the Incarnate Word graduate is living in San Antonio and started taking guitar lessons here in San Antonio as he prepared for his new role as the patriarch of the Quintanilla family.

But this series focuses much more on balancing relationships within a family, growing up in South Texas and the demands and sacrifices of life on the road. Chavira believes the series achieved just that and is an authentic reflection of life for Latino families in South Texas. Along with the album is the Netflix documentary called โShawn Mendes: In Wonder,โ which is available for streaming and follows Mendesโ rise and journey over the last few years. โ Christmas came early when Carrie Underwood released her first holiday album in September, and on Thursday sheโll debut a musical TV special to accompany the album.

UTSA to host panel with sneak peek of Selena series on Netflix
SAN ANTONIO โ UTSA is giving Selena fans a sneak peek of the upcoming Netflix series about the iconic Tejano singer. Netflix and the university will host a virtual panel on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m with actor and San Antonio native Ricardo Chavira, and series executive producer Jaime Dรกvila. Sonya Alemรกn, associate professor of Mexican American Studies at UTSA, will be part of the panel as well. Alemรกn launched a course this year on Selena Quintanilla-Perez in the Mexican American Studies Program at UTSA. The new Selena series will premiere on Dec. 4 on Netflix.

SAN ANTONIO โ The much anticipated โSelena: The Seriesโ now has a released date. A series of photo teases Tuesday morning led to the big trailer announcement that the series would premiere on Dec. 4. The clip above shows actress Christian Serratos performing as Selena in different stages of her life and narration by Ricardo Chavira who plays Abraham Quintanilla. The highly anticipated series is a look at Selenaโs life and rise to stardom. Last November, we got a first look at the cast when a teaser trailer was released.

SAN ANTONIO โ The red lips, the purple jumpsuit โ Christian Serratos is rocking them both in the first "Selena: The Seriesโ trailer released Tuesday. Part 1 will hit Netflix in 2020, according to an Instagram post with a video of Serratos singing โComo La Flor.โโHere we go!!! Former โDesperate Housewivesโ star and San Antonio native Ricardo Chavira will play Abraham Quintanilla. Chavira also shared the trailer on Instagram and added โthe whole family is getting together" for the series. Quintanilla, Noemi Gonzalez will play Suzette Quintanilla, Seidy Lรณpez will play Marcella Quintanilla and Madison Taylor Baez will play young Selena, according to TV Line.
