SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said they've found an important piece of evidence in the October baseball bat beating death of Jose Luis Menchaca, 35, inside a far West Side home.
Menchaca's slaying, however, is believed to have taken place inside a home on the city's North Side.
His body was discovered in the garage of that home in the 400 block of Hillwood Drive in October.
Within days, police arrested the couple who lives there -- Candie Dominguez, 35, and Daniel Moreno Lopez, 28.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a witness told police he saw the couple arguing with Menchaca, then heard what sounded like a beating with a baseball bat and Menchaca screaming.
The witness also told investigators that Dominguez's children were in the home when it happened.
Menchaca's body wasn't found until several days later.
Neighbors told KSAT 12 News at that time that they smelled an unusual odor coming from the home.
Later in the month, police arrested Gabriel Moreno, 32, also naming him as a suspect in the murder.
On Monday evening, a new development led investigators to a home on the far West Side, in the 9100 block of Canter Horse.
"There were police cars but I didn't really pay attention because I saw some lights," said Miguel Gonzalez, who lives in the area and saw the commotion.
Officer Douglas Greene, a spokesman for SAPD, confirmed that detectives had received a tip that evidence related to the murder could be found inside a home there.
Greene would not give specific details about the evidence but said that investigators did recover something there; He said no additional arrests were made at that time.
It's still too early to tell whether anyone inside the home had knowledge of the evidence or was involved in the crime, he said.
A woman and man who answered a knock on the door on Tuesday morning did not want to talk about what happened and ordered KSAT 12 News crews to leave.
Either way, Miguel Gonzalez said he plans to keep his distance from the home.
"It's scary," Gonzalez said. "There are a bunch of kids around here, so that's my concern."
