Letters: Praying for blinding light
She claims to support school safety yet defends her version of the 2nd Amendment allowing people who “love America” to buy military-style rifles, then journey miles to take out schoolchildren. She goes on to proclaim that people who love America believe in a one-tiered system of justice, but conveniently forgets the number of her insurrection-advocating ex-president’s followers who are still walking free. Please, Mrs. Coronado, leave us real Americans alone. But, Mrs. Coronado, isn’t the U.S. Capitol the most sacred building to our democracy? Why is that, Mrs. Coronado?myrgv.com
World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation
Pope Francis has issued his message for the 2022 World Day of Prayer for Creation, which is celebrated every year on Sept. 1, which he established in 2015 and is in keeping with the theme of his environmental statement, Laudato Si. The World Day of Prayer for Creation also marks the beginning of The Season of Creation, which lasts until Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of ecology. The theme for this year’s day and season of creation is “Listening to the Voice of Creation.” Pope Francis stated that in this season “we return to pray in the great cathedral of creation, enjoying the “grand cosmic choir” of innumerable creatures singing praises to God,” as we listen to the voice of creation. The pope stresses that these days of creation encourage all to make simple changes to their lives so that God’s creation is treated with respect. They remind us that hope for tomorrow is not a noble sentiment but a task calling for concrete action here and now.”The ecumenical phase begins Sept. 1 with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and concludes Oct. 4.myrgv.com
Letters: Retention pond system needed
We keep improving our drainage system thinking that this time it will work even though it never has in the past. We must adopt a system of detention and retention ponds that have been used across the world for centuries. Simply put, the storm water is held in place near where the flooding occurs until the storm water system can safely take the water. For starters, we need a single storm water management agency covering both counties. The residents are tired of their property flooding year after year as city and county governments repeat the same mistakes.myrgv.com

God’s unborn children: Fearfully, wonderfully made
Each precious unborn in the mother’s womb proclaims through the Holy Spirit of God, “I give you thanks that I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” and “truly you have formed my inmost being — you knit me in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139. We are now experiencing a truly historic victory for human life. Never once has the Supreme Court declared abortion as a constitutional right or as a human right, as some falsely claim. At a national and every state level there are laws that condemn killing human beings, which the unborn are. This little one shouts out, “I am fearfully, wonderfully made.”The “choice” to be made is before conception, not once the life of a tiny person begins.myrgv.com
Letters: Thomas addressed
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wants all devout Christians to work to limit freedoms of those who are not fundamentalist Christian. He wants gay marriage ruled unconstitutional and to remove the human rights of gay people. Justice Thomas said that “in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents,” pointing to Griswold v. Connecticut (contraception), Lawrence v. Texas (same-sex marriage), and Obergefell v. Hodges (same-sex marriage). Why was it right for God to slaughter women and children in the Old Testament? Letters: Not fit to lead
Those systems invite the very few elite among the people to form their ranks, the ones who are physically, emotionally, socially, financially and intellectually fit. It glazed over other findings, including testimony from Republican elected officials who had been pressured by Trump to overturn the election results in their states. When the Second amendment was passed, muskets were the main weapon in use at that time. If those pictures were made public, the public would never forget, ever. Mr. Grant’s assertion that there is some allure provided by the Second Amendment in relation to mass shootings is additionally incorrect.myrgv.com
I am so glad one of the letter writers to The Monitor mentioned Psalms chapter 109, verse 8, in his letter and indicating it pertains to President Biden (June 22). Yes, this is the kind of man the psalmist is telling about and this man is Joe Biden. The psalmist is spelling out the attributes of the evil men such as lying, cheating, hatred, extortion, persecuting the poor and needy, cursing and greed. Now in my opinion, this describes our former president and God-loving people of America honored this psalmist by saying let another take his office with their vote. Bill WilliamsPalmviewmyrgv.com

Unvaccinated medical workers turn to religious exemptions
As the remaining vaccine mandates for medical workers get to set be implemented this week in 25 mostly conservative states, it is once again becoming clear how widespread the use of religious exemptions is in the U.S. as a workaround to complying with such requirements.
