The City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Police Officers Association have yet to reach compromises on major components of the contract: officerโs pay, their health care costs, and the cityโs primary goal for this contract - changing the appeals process for fired officers. Though there are only two more bargaining sessions in the original schedule, talks can continue past that if both sides agree.

The results of a newly released poll show that the fate of Prop B, a high-profile initiative that would strip San Antonio police of their collective bargaining power, looks to be a toss up with less than a month to go before the May 1 election.

And it appears possible that, depending on the terms, there could be enough council members willing to vote on such a deal ahead of the election. Thatโs when the city council is scheduled to canvas the election results and make them official. The union has expressed doubt that council members would be willing to vote on a deal while the election is happening. KSAT contacted each council memberโs office to ask about their willingness to vote on a contract before voters make their decision on Proposition B.

SAPOA President Danny Diaz accused Fix SAPD โ the organization that spearheaded the movement behind Prop B โ of lying to the voters about the true intentions of the proposal. โThese organizations work on a wealth of issues from fixing police contracts to supporting candidates for some of them, district attorney reform, mobilizing black voters, aiding refugee and immigrant families. But Diaz said the repeal amounts to defunding by taking away their seat at the bargaining table. San Antonio voters approve all three propositionsSan Antonio voters have approved all three propositions, according to voting numbers released from the Bexar County Elections Department. Proposition B - the 1/8 cent tax for workforce development - will fund a workforce training and education program. And, the 1/8 cent tax for SA: Ready to Work will be diverted to transportation after its funding expires at the end of 2025. โIโm grateful to the San Antonio voting public that they support one another, especially during a time of crisis," Nirenberg said. Voters would essentially renew the sales tax for the same purpose, as the sales tax that voters approved in November 2012 will expire in 2021.
SAISD calls for $1.3 billion bond election
SAN ANTONIO The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees voted Monday to call for a $1.3 billion bond election in November. Two separate propositions will appear on the November ballot one on renovations, and the other on technological advancements. The decision to call for the election followed recommendations from the community-based Blue Ribbon Task Force as part of the districts long-range master plan. Taxpayers would not see a tax rate increase from the bond, according to a news release from the school district. Proposition A, which is $1.21 billion, would address renovation needs for 36 campuses, provide safety upgrades and replace air conditioning chillers that are more than 15 years old.
