SAN ANTONIO – Chef Johnny Hernandez continues to add to his busy schedule. He currently has restaurants all over San Antonio, Houston, Las Vegas and England.
He is now adding a burger-inspired restaurant right here in San Antonio called Burgerteca, located at 403 Blue Star.
Hernandez is taking Mexican flavors and infusing them into burgers. The al pastor burger is similar to the al pastor tacos served at La Gloria. The same seasonings, spices, garnishes and a pineapple are all a part of this menu item.

The theme of the place is to be creative with the burger and provide innovative menu items with the flavors of Mexico.
The french fries are even served with a flare. For instance there are queso fundido fries. These are topped with melted cheese, chorizo and poblano peppers.
Besides the food, the place itself is decorating with eye-popping art from Mexico. It's almost as if you are walking into the latest Pixar movie "Coco." Walls are decorated with alebrijes and sugar skulls.
"Everything in here, everything you see in Burgerteca comes from different artists throughout Mexico," Hernandez said.
Even though this is Hernandez's latest venture, 2018 will keep him busy. A new seafood restaurant is set to open in February, another La Gloria and El Machito will open on the south side, and a big project is in the works at La Villita.
Burgerteca is open every day for lunch and dinner.
