Affidavit: Check fraud ring leader gives up accomplices

Four more arrested in suspected check fraud ring

SAN ANTONIO – Four more suspects have been arrested in connection with what state investigators believe was a phony check ring.

The suspects were identified as Elizabeth Doyle, 29; Charles Hill, 19; Ashley Williams, 27; and Vertasha Ellis, 25.

All of them were arrested Monday on two counts each of engaging in organized criminal activity.

According to an arrest affidavit, investigators with the Department of Public Safety had been looking into this case for months and identified Sheena Holland, 30, as the ring leader of the operation. Holland was arrested earlier this month.

The affidavit stated she told investigators that all four of the newly arrested suspects had been working with her, cashing phony checks that she printed up with other people's names and account numbers on them.

She said the others in the group would then turn over half of their proceeds to her.

Figures mentioned in the affidavits add up to tens of thousands of dollars.

The four latest suspects were all booked into the Bexar County Jail each with bonds set that total $10,000.
