DENVER โ Donning gray caps that declared them AFC East champions for the first time since 1995, the Buffalo Bills acted like this was old hat. โTo be the team and to be the quarterback on the team that does it, obviously feels really good. โBut thereโs still a lot on the table.โBuffalo coach Sean McDermott said he received a congratulatory email from Marv Levy, the last Bills coach to win the AFC East. He also missed the 51-yard field goal attempt way to the right on Denverโs opening drive. Broncos top winless Jets 37-28 for first victory of season
It was a victory, though, and Vic Fangio and the Denver Broncos are relieved to finally get one โ no matter how it looked. Melvin Gordon sealed the Denver Broncosโ first win of the season with a 43-yard touchdown run with 1:48 remaining, and the defense made just enough plays in the fourth quarter to beat the bumbling โ and still winless โ New York Jets 37-28 on Thursday night. The Jets couldnโt do anything on their next possession, and Sam Darnold was sacked by Chubb on fourth-and-3 at the two-minute warning. Brian Poole intercepted Rypien, making his first NFL start, on the Broncosโ next possession, giving the Jets the ball at Denverโs 44. Jets: look for their first win when they host Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 11.

The three-year, $39 million contract Arizona gave David Johnson, who's now with Houston, might be the most realistic model. Gordon took a two-year, $8 million contract with Denver.
