Hello parents, teachers and students!

Are you ready for summer and some Texas heat?

Well before we get there, let me say first what an amazing school year it has been. From the remarkable teachers and staff, to the students who have been hard at work, it truly has been impressive what you all have accomplished. This year has been like no other, and yet, the hard work and dedication of so many has made the lessons continue throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

KSAT Kids recently had the chance to talk to some Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD teachers who expressed their sadness for the end of school year. They also left some messages for their students, as they head out for the summer.

And with summer officially here, there are ton of places around San Antonio that are reopening their doors for family-friendly activities. Recently, Schlitterbahn set its opening date for season-pass holders, and we now have a listing of eleven outdoor pools that will open up along with area five splash pads for the Fourth of July.

In this week’s kid’s spotlight, we focus on a three-year-old who did some miraculous quick thinking that led to the rescue of his father and young sister from high water. Way to go Miles, you deserve all the accolades you receive.

For those parents looking for something to do different than the usual crowds this time of year, KSAT Kids still has a few indoor options as well. Scroll down to see the latest kid recipe from Junior chef Molly O’Connell, this time on how to create meatballs three ways. KSAT Kids is also looking for more junior meteorologists, so parents, take out your camera and get recording. Chosen videos are shown in the GMSA@9 newscast on KSAT12.

And don’t forget, right now on our website we have a map where you can find free school meals during the summer. We also have a list of places offering free Wi-Fi for students and their families during the pandemic.
