San Antonio – After 27 years of coaching, Ronald Reagan boys’ head basketball coach, John Hirst, eclipsed the 400-win mark December 28 in Austin. “It’s a time to reflect on, you know, people who’ve had an impact on your life and in your career. Hirst was also able to secure the win while his son Jacob, a senior power forward, was on the Rattlers roster. “He’s a great coach and I want to be like my dad,” Hirst said. After nearly three decades coaching, Hirst says the most important accomplishment in his career has been using basketball as a vehicle to teach his players to become responsible adults.

SAN ANTONIO - St. Mary's men's golf is in first place after the first two rounds on day one of the Golf Glove Hub St. Edward's Fall Classic. Ryan Dixon shot a 66 (-6) in the opening round to set the bar high for the Rattlers early. He followed that up with an even 72 in the second round to take the top spot in the individual rankings after the first day. Emilio Gonzales fired a 68 (-4) in the first round and a 73 (+1) in the second to tie for fourth at the end of day one. The Rattlers play the third and final round Wednesday at Avery Ranch Golf Club, looking to maintain the top spot.

SAN ANTONIO - For the first time in program history, the St. Mary's University men's soccer team defeated Midwestern State University. In the nonconference matchup against Lone Star Conference foe MSU Texas, the Rattlers held an advantage in shots taken, outshooting the Mustangs 10-7. Both teams put three shots on goal but St. Mary's Jacob Sayle had a stellar performance denying each shot. The Rattlers struck early as Cain Smith buried one just inside the post off an Edu Toiny-Pendred cross to put St. Mary's up 1-0 in the ninth minute. St. Mary's defense kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
