After review, prosecutors decline to reopen case of Black man killed by San Antonio police officer
Marquise Jones was killed by Officer R. Encina Feb. 28, 2014 at 8614 Perrin Beitel. Gonzales said that Jonesโ family had also provided additional information into the shooting. Jones' family sued Encina and the city for damages in federal court, claiming Encina used excessive and unreasonable force and violated Jones' constitutional rights. However, a jury later ruled against Jonesโ family, claiming Encina didnโt use excessive and unnecessary deadly force. โThere is conflicting evidence on whether Jones had a gun,โ prosecutors wrote in their review.

SAN ANTONIO โ Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said Monday he has no plans to reopen the cases of three high-profile SAPD officer-involved shooting deaths in San Antonio. Marquise JonesJones, 23, was killed outside a Northeast Side Chachoโs by Officer Robert Encina who was working security at the restaurant. Officer Steve Casanova opened fire on Snowden, but also shot and killed Roundtree who was in the line of fire. A Bexar County grand jury voted July 18, 2019, not to indict Casanova and he was cleared of all charges.
