A man who was shot and killed by a San Antonio police officer at a far West Side motel has been identified.

A San Antonio Police Department Street Crimes officer shot and killed a suspect at a motel on the city’s far West Side late Tuesday night, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

Jose Iruegas, 44, was the man shot by police after he allegedly threatened people with a gun and then pointed that gun at the officers. Officer Joshua Nicholson who has been with SAPD for 6 years, and Ryan Tovar, a 7-year veteran of the force were the responding officers who shot Iruegas, according to an SAPD spokesperson.

The suit, filed by the family of Cameron Redus, had been scheduled for trial next Monday after years of delays and appeals in the case.
