Businesses’ issues with homeless spur BCSO patrols on San Antonio River Walk
Downtown businesses’ issues with people experiencing homelessness have spurred the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office to send deputies on patrol along the River Walk -- though not in great numbers nor with the ability to enforce all the local laws.
Chicago River dyed green in surprise move by city’s mayor

Last year, Lightfoot abruptly canceled the city’s 2020 parades and the river dyeing just days before they were to take place in the early days of the pandemic.
Holiday lights along SA Riverwalk will stay up through Valentines Day
SAN ANTONIO – If you’ve taken a stroll down the famous San Antonio Riverwalk you may have noticed a little more sparkle. The holiday lights along the Riverwalk has attracted visitors for decades. Maggie Thompson, Executive Director with the San Antonio Riverwalk Association said they’re hoping to shed some light following a dark year. She hopes the lights will give people a sense of joy that usually comes with the holidays. The lights will stay up through Valentines Day.
Investigation underway after San Antonio Riverwalk becomes target of graffiti
SAN ANTONIO – A popular San Antonio attraction was the target of vandalism. Parts of the San Antonio Riverwalk were graffitied and some feel it sends the wrong message about the Alamo City. “I think San Antonio is a beautiful city, but I guess that’s my opinion. Antonio Richardson is a San Antonio native. “I wish people would find a different kind of outlet to be creative, just not on our beautiful riverwalk," she said.
Thousands evacuated as river dams break in central Michigan
For the second time in less than 24 hours, families living along the Tittabawassee River and connected lakes in Midland County were ordered to leave home. The evacuations include the towns of Edenville, Sanford and parts of Midland, according to Selina Tisdale, spokeswoman for Midland County. Dow Michigan Operations is working with its tenants and Midland County officials and will continue to closely monitor the water levels on the Tittabawassee River, Schikorra said. The Sanford Dam, which was built in 1925, received a fair condition rating. The Tittabawassee River was at 30.5 feet (9.3 meters) and rising Tuesday night - flood stage is 24 feet (7.3 meters).

SAN ANTONIO - One man was taken into custody after a man was stabbed during a confrontation at a Riverwalk restaurant that turned violent Friday evening. The stabbing happened just after 7 p.m. on the Riverwalk below the 200 block of Losoya Street. Police said two men inside a restaurant apparently argued and the attacker then drove a knife into the victim's chest. They said the attacker then ran up onto street level and officers found him a short distance away. Police also found what appeared to be the weapon involved in the Riverwalk attack in the 300 block of North Presa Street, just a short distance away from the stabbing scene.
Downtown hotel evacuated due to fire scare
SAN ANTONIO - Guests staying at Hotel Valencia on the Riverwalk were forced to leave their rooms and exit the hotel early Saturday morning due to a fire scare. Officials say just before 3 a.m., hotel staff noticed smoke coming out of the vents in the lobby. It took firefighters around 45 minutes to find the source of the smoke, which they say was caused by an electrical short in the air conditioning unit on the top floor. Hard Rock International announced Wednesday that it will begin a $7 million renovation of the Hard Rock Cafe located along the River Walk in San Antonio. Local jazz legend Jim Cullum Jr. dies at 77
SAN ANTONIO - Jim Cullum Jr., a legendary San Antonio jazz artist who, for nearly five decades, entertained locals and visitors alike at the Landing on the Riverwalk, died Sunday, his personal assistant confirmed. Cullum, 77, and his cornet were at the heart of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band. When Cullum's Riverwalk gig ended a few years ago, he and his band continued to perform at restaurants such as Cookhouse and Acadiana Cafe. According to Cullum's website, his involvement in the Riverwalk Jazz public radio program brought him national acclaim. John Sheridan, who played the piano for the Jim Cullum Jazz Band for more than 30 years, told KSAT that Cullum took the band to great heights.
Riding scooters on sidewalks no longer allowed in SA
SAN ANTONIO - New rules on using scooters downtown went into effect on Monday, restricting where people can use them. Riding scooters on sidewalks in San Antonio is now prohibited, thanks to a measure that was approved by City Council just last month. In addition to sidewalks, scooters also have been banned from both Alamo Plaza and the Riverwalk. The San Antonio Fire Department said they have responded to 173 scooter-related accidents since it began tracking medical calls for such incidents in late September, with nearly 100 people being to the hospital. Local agency receives $100,000 donation from Kym Rapier
SAN ANTONIO - Ma Hilas Heart Project on Tuesday was given a $100,000 donation by philanthropist Kym Rapier. The organization is about to celebrate a Christmas in July event for children who are living with cancer and their families. During the event, the children are given a weekend on the Riverwalk with an overnight stay, activities such as painting, makeup and photo booths, and a DJ, arts and crafts and Santa Clause handing out presents.
