After helping the UTSA baseball program to its best season in school history, James Taussig signed a minor league baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox.

The UTSA baseball team was back on campus Wednesday afternoon, practicing for their best-of-three NCAA Super Regional series against the 15th-ranked UCLA Bruins.

James Taussig went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to help UTSA send No. 2 overall seed Texas to the losers’ bracket with a 9-7 come-from-behind victory at the Austin Regional on Saturday night.

After losing in last week’s conference tournament, the University of Texas at San Antonio baseball team learned its season will live to fight another day.

After defeating the Rice Owls in their opening game of the American Athletic Conference Tournament, the No. 1-seeded UTSA Roadrunners fell to No. 5 Tulane.

The No. 6 Trinity University baseball team won the Marshall regional championship to advance to the Super Regionals of the DIII tournament.

The Maria Villanueva Scholarship was started in 2014 to help college students who have been affected by kidney disease pay their college expenses. The scholarship was started by KSAT 12 Sports Producer Daniel P. Villanueva in memory of his mother who passed away in 2011. Daniel P. Villanueva has worked with KSAT 12 Sports for over 17 years and is an award-winning sports producer.

SAN ANTONIO – Baseball has returned to Wolff Stadium in the form of the Texas Collegiate League – a wooden bat league comprised of college players and the Missions are fielding The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio with former local standouts. The three months without school or conference-sponsored baseball events has been a difficult challenge for many of the players to navigate and they are grateful for the opportunity to play summer ball. Many of the players grew up playing against one another and look forward to suiting up for the same team. “It’s nice to see everybody that’s made it into college and made it to the upper levels to come back together and play again for San Antonio.”Playing for an organization tied to the San Antonio Missions and at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium holds additional meaning for local players. “Ever since I was a little kid, I’d always watch the San Antonio Missions and Chanclas and everything and I’d always dreamed about being on this field and playing in a professional atmosphere and everything,” Porter said.
