Alamo tattoo leads to robbery suspect's capture

Derrek Caballero, 24, accused of robbing man at gunpoint

SAN ANTONIO – A tattoo of  the Alamo has helped San Antonio police identify a suspect in the armed robbery of a man on the city's South Side.

Derrek Caballero, 24, who it appears has been in custody since March, was charged Sunday in connection with the crime.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a 44-year-old man called police in January, telling them that he had been robbed at gunpoint while walking to work. He told them the man who demanded his wallet and backpack had a tattoo of the Alamo on his chin.

The affidavit stated that Caballero had been named as a suspect in a separate robbery that happened around the same time, and was arrested on that warrant in March.

Earlier this month, police showed a photo lineup to the victim who had his wallet and backpack stolen. The affidavit stated that he identified Caballero as the man who robbed him.

A charge of aggravated robbery has been filed against Caballero.
