Local nonprofits banking on generous donations during Big Give 2019

Daylong fundraising drive started at midnight

SAN ANTONIO – It's the biggest day of giving in San Antonio, as the Big Give 2019 kicked off at midnight Thursday.

Local nonprofits are banking on the generosity of San Antonians during the 24-hour online giving event.

According to the Big Give website, more than $20 million has been donated to over 2,000 nonprofits through the Big Give over the past five years, making it one of the most successful giving days in the country.

“I think the importance is there are so many nonprofits in our area and community that do such good work to make our city livable, fun and a place where we want to live. It’s important that the city knows the work that these nonprofits do,” Scott McAninch, CEO of the Nonprofit Council, said.

Those interested in donating today must donate the minimum donation of $10 and can do so at their website by clicking here.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, thousands of donors have helped raise more than $4.2 million for 435 organizations.

This is a developing story. Stay with KSAT 12 both online and on-air for more information.
