6-year-old girl shot, killed at West Side car club meetup, police say

Incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. near SW 24th Street and West Commerce Street

SAN ANTONIO – A 6-year-old girl is dead following a shooting at a West Side car club meetup late Sunday night, San Antonio police said.

The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. near Southwest 24th Street and West Commerce Street, not far from Our Lady of the Lake University.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the girl killed as Saryah Perez.

According to police, Perez and her mom were both shot following what police say was a dispute at the car club meetup.

Police said the girl was shot in the chest while she sat in her car seat and her mother was grazed in the back by a bullet. The suspect fired the gunshot as the vehicle drove away, police said. Authorities did not specify what led up to the dispute.

SAPD said the woman drove to a local corner store where she called for help. Perez was transported to University Hospital, where she later died, police said.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.

SAPD said they are searching for a man in his 20s or 30s in connection to the shooting.
