SAN ANTONIO – Calling all plant people! A new nursery specializing in rare and hard-to-find plants native to Texas is opening in San Antonio this April.

The Nectar Bar announced earlier this month that it’s opening the city’s first all-Texas-native plant nursery at 10 a.m. on April 1.

“We are a local, woman-owned business built off the love of butterflies,” Drake White, founder of the Nectar Bar, told KSAT. “We specialize in all things pollinators and water conservation. We’re excited to be expanding and opening the first all-native plant nursery here in San Antonio.”

White originally started Nectar Bar as a native landscape company before getting her nursery license. She also ran a backyard nursery before getting the opportunity to open her storefront

“Much like the lifecycle of the butterfly, the nectar bar has grown through metamorphosis, and we are eager to spread our wings, share knowledge, and offer a wide variety of native plants, trees, and grasses,” White said.

She also works closely with the annual Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival in San Antonio where more than 700 butterflies are tagged every year for public education.

White told KSAT a “wide variety of Texas native milkweed for monarch and queen butterflies, Liatris, wild carrot for black swallowtail, penstemon cobaea, salvia azurea, perennial standing winecup, false boneset, prairie celestials, and many more will be available opening day.”

Following the grand opening, the Nectar Bar will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. at 14732 Bulverde Road.

“There will be plenty of parking in the back,” White told KSAT. “We’re excited to see everyone.”
