Recent shootings on same street has South Side residents on edge

SAN ANTONIO – Two shootings in about two weeks have some residents in a South Side neighborhood on edge.

First, there was a shootout between cars on July 10 and then a drive-by shooting on July 25.

“It makes me very nervous. I’m just, I’m scared,” said a resident that asked to remain anonymous.

Waking up to the sounds of gunshots has residents who live off Oxana and Creath Place living in fear. Only one out of five neighbors KSAT spoke with was willing to go on camera with the condition of hiding her identity.

“I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel safe,” said the resident.

According to San Antonio police, the drive-by before 4 a.m. on July 25 was someone shooting into the air as they drove by.

As for the shootout between cars around 5:30 a.m. on July 10, the video showed cars driving down Creath Place toward Oxana. One car went through a resident’s yard as the people inside the vehicles shot at each other.

SAPD has shown up to both incidents looking for evidence, but not much has turned up.

Doorbell video shows an officer checking a home for bullet holes.

“I saw holes there, but it was from the construction,” said the officer, following up with, “You guys are fine?”

The homeowner responded, “Yeah, we’re good.”

Neighbors said at least two cars had been hit by gunfire. They fear the shootings won’t stop anytime soon.

“I don’t think they’re going to stop unless they hurt somebody. If they’re doing that, they don’t care. They don’t care who they hurt,” said a resident.

SAPD said both cases are being investigated as a discharged firearm and aggravated assault - deadly conduct.
