Junior Bryan Sturges then followed with a two-run single that gave the Vaqueros the 3-2 lead which also knocked out starter Cade Swenson. Graduate student Freddy Rojas Jr. then weclomed reliever Frank Dickson IV with a three-run home run that extended UTRGVโs lead to 6-2. Logan Gallina drove in Kevin Jimenez with an RBI single. After a walk and a strikeout, Cal Kilgore delivered a two-run double to right field that cut the Vaqueros lead to 6-5.

The UTRGV womenโs basketball team added a nonconference game against No. 9 Texas at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, after having its Western Athletic Conference game at New Mexico State postponed due to COVID concerns within the Aggies program, UTRGV announced Friday. The game will air live on the Longhorn Network. This will be the first matchup between the programs since Nov. 20, 2019, when the Vaqueros visited the Frank Erwin Center. The Vaqueros (5-8, 1-1) snapped a three-game losing streak with a win against Grand Canyon on Thursday, while the Longhorns (10-2, 1-1) lost to Texas Tech on Wednesday.

Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King is out indefinitely after having surgery to repair his broken right leg, suffered early in the seventh-ranked Aggies' 10-7 win at Colorado over the weekend. Coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday that Kingโs surgery to repair a broken tibia went well but that there is no timeline for his return. โWhen youโre healed, youโre healed," Fisher said.

Aaliyah Wilson scored 17 points and Nโdea Jones added 16 to lead Texas A&M to a 65-57 win over fifth-ranked South Carolina to give the Aggies their first regular-season Southeastern Conference title. Texas A&M (22-1, 13-1 SEC) snapped a seven-game skid against South Carolina and finished the season 13-0 at home after playing in front of a season-high 2,700 on Sunday. The Aggies outscored South Carolina (19-4, 14-2) 19-8 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead before the Gamecocks get back in it late. AdThe Aggies added a basket after that before South Carolina got its first field goal of the second half on a layup by Lele Grissett a few seconds later. A 5-0 run by Texas A&M, with another 3 by Nixon, came next to make it 52-37 and spur South Carolina Staley to call a timeout.

There is no need to worry about geography in this year's NCAA Tournament. The Aggies said Friday they were prepared to play the home game with a limited roster, but a new positive COVID-19 test along with subsequent contact tracing forced the postponement. Arkansas coach Eric Musselman said his team found out about the postponement while boarding the bus to travel to College Station. Musselman says his team is working with the Southeastern Conference to see if it can add a nonconference game. ___A limited number of fans will be allowed to attend all rounds of next monthโs NCAA menโs basketball tournament in Indiana.

Los Angeles center Brian Allen was the first NFL player to confirm he had tested positive for coronavirus back in April. The list is used for players who either test positive for the coronavirus or have had close contact with someone who tested positive. ___Bill Haas has tested positive for the coronavirus and has withdrawn from the RSM Classic this week at Sea Island. ___An unidentified New York Giants player has tested positive for the coronavirus, prompting the team to work remotely Tuesday.

Spiller leads No. 10 Texas A&M over Vanderbilt 17-12
COLLEGE STATION, Texas โ Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher admitted that heโd be mad all week after the way his 10th-ranked team played against Vanderbilt on Saturday night. Isaiah Spiller had 117 yards rushing, Ainias Smith ran for a touchdown Texas A&M overcame three turnovers in a mistake-filled game to beat Vanderbilt 17-12 in the season-opener for both teams. Spiller had 5 five yards rushing in the first half before getting going after halftime. But Vanderbilt had to punt it back to allow Texas A&M to hold on for the victory. Vanderbilt led 3-0 in the first quarter before Smith ran 25 yards for a touchdown to put A&M on top.

Mond accounts for 4 TDs at No. 12 A&M routs Texas St. 41-7
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - With Texas A&M's date against No. Kellen Mond threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score in just more than three quarters, and Texas A&M had four interceptions in the 41-7 rout. Myles Jones had two of Texas A&M's four interceptions, and the Aggies had three sacks and nine tackles for losses. Vitt was 9 of 15 for 51 yards and Jensen had 160 yards passing and a fourth-quarter touchdown pass. Mond showed off his scrambling skills in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run where he stiff-armed a defender.
