Steele High School to host STEM summer camp for military kids

This summer, 75-150 children of military-connected personnel will attend a weeklong camp at Steele High School courtesy of a Department of Defense grant received by the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. STEMKAMP — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for Kids of Active Military Personnel — will engage students in grades 3-8 in a host of activities during the June 7-11 camp. “It is a privilege to be able to bring STEMKAMP to children in military families nationwide. Goshen Education Consulting is a STEM educational evaluation and research center located in Edwardsville, IL. Since its founding in 2009, Goshen Education Consulting has conducted more than 60 educational evaluation and research projects.

SCUCISD board approves remote-only learning until Sept. 8

SCHERTZ, Texas The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District board of trustees voted Thursday to change course and offer remote-only learning until Sept. 8 due to COVID-19. The district had planned on offering both in-person learning and remote learning until the Bexar County health department ordered all public and private schools to be remote-only until after Labor Day. SCUCISD has campuses in both Bexar County and Guadalupe County. The new rules in Bexar County meant that two schools would have to offer remote-only while the other 13 campuses would have been allowed to offer in-person learning. The decision to do remote-only learning for the first three-plus weeks of school was unanimous among board members.

Guadalupe County hosting free, walk-up COVID-19 testing site July 24

(Copyright 2020 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.) SCHERTZ, Texas – Guadalupe County will host a free, walk-up COVID-19 testing site on Friday, July 24, in Schertz. The mobile site will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or when tests run out at Lehnhoff Stadium under the home bleachers, according to the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal’s Office. The testing is being hosted by the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.

Steele High School special education teacher accused of inappropriate contact with student arrested, police say

CIBOLO, Texas – A Steele High School special education teacher was arrested Thursday afternoon by Cibolo police in a case involving inappropriate contact with a student, officials said. The tipster told officials the incident involving the student and the teacher was caught on surveillance video, according to police. Judson ISD teacher arrested for aggravated sex assault of 8-year-old girl, police sayPolice said they arrested Villarreal around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The district sent the following statement in an email to parents:"This afternoon, Steele High School special education teacher Alfred Villarreal was arrested for Indecency with a Child. After school hours on February 25, our administrative team became aware of potentially inappropriate physical contact with a student.
