Security guard finds fire inside parking garage near Shops at Rivercenter
SAN ANTONIO โ Firefighters put out a fire inside a parking garage downtown near the Shops at Rivercenter early Wednesday morning, the San Antonio Fire Department said. The fire was called in by a security guard around 2:15 a.m. inside the garage, located in the 800 block of East Commerce. Fire officials said the security guard saw smoke coming from a vent in the lower level of the parking garage under the Macyโs department store. Firefighters found smoldering insulation in the ventilation ducts and quickly put the fire out. Fire officials said the fire caused a couple hundred dollars in damage to the vent and that it was probably started by a cigarette.

Macyโs called the shuttering part of its strategy which leaves four stores in San Antonio. The trend, he said, is toward smaller, concept stores and not the big stores that have long anchored traditional malls. After the pandemic, Shankar expects shoppers will return to brick and mortar stores. โBut, they may not be flocking to the stores in big numbers as they used to do during the days of big malls,โ he said. AMC to offer 15-cent tickets on first day of reopening
NEW YORK AMC Theatres, the nation's largest movie theater chain, will reopen in the U.S. on Aug. 20 with retro ticket prices of 15 cents per movie. AMC theaters have reopened in numerous international countries but have remained shuttered in the U.S. since March. During its opening-day promotion, AMC will show catalog films, including Ghostbusters, Black Panther," Back to the Future and Grease." AMC confirmed that Disney's much-delayed New Mutants will debut in theaters Aug. 28, with Christopher Nolan's Tenet to follow Sept. 3. AMC said Thursday is expects about two thirds of its theaters will be open in time for Tenet. Several states, including California and New York, are yet to allow movie theaters to reopen.
Prominent downtown San Antonio building hits the market with redevelopment potential
