A Bexar County Sheriffโs deputy has been suspended after an internal investigation found he advised the son of Somerset Independent School Districtโs superintendent to delete explicit photos and a video of a female classmate off his phone.
Mass COVID-19 testing at Somerset ISD deemed a success by superintendent
SAN ANTONIO โ Somerset High School teacher Terry White was concerned about returning to campus in the fall because of COVID-19. Still, White returned to the classroom, but his son stayed home, learning virtually until COVID-19 testing started. The non-profit organization Community Labs began conducting mass testing for COVID-19 at Somerset ISD in September. Somerset ISD Superintendent Saul Hinojosa said when they first started testing, about 39% of students were learning in-person, and now itโs about 70%. Hinojosa said Community Labs will be testing at Somerset ISD until the end of the school year.
Koy Detmer, son of late great Sonny Detmer, hired as Somersetโs head football coach
SOMERSET โ The Detmer legacy continues at Somerset High School. On Monday evening, the Somerset School District Board of Trustees met to name Koy Detmer as the new head football coach. Koy is the son of longtime high school football coaching legend Sonny Detmer, who passed away last September. Koy played quarterback for his father at Mission High School and served as head coach of the Eagles for the past five seasons. He played eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and had a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings.
Johnson High School employee, Somerset ISD staff member test positive for COVID-19
SAN ANTONIO The North East Independent School District has confirmed that an employee of Johnson High School has tested positive for COVID-19, Principal Gary Comalander said in a letter to parents and staff. It has come to our attention that one of our employees has tested positive for COVID-19, Comalander said in the letter sent Monday. At the same time, a similar notification was sent to parents in the Somerset Independent School District. Somerset standout, Hunter Hernandez, commits to play football for TLU
SOMERSET On Wednesday, Somerset graduate, Hunter Hernandez, signed his National Letter of Intent to pay football for TLU. His senior year, the running back rushed for over 1800 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hernandez played in the San Antonio All-American Bowl, where he had seven carries for 107 yards and a score.
Soldier surprises mother, sister at Somerset High School
SOMERSET, Texas โ Army Spc. Oscar Ortegon surprised his mom and younger sister Wednesday at Somerset High School. Ortegon graduated from the school in 2018. He has been in South Korea for the past 13 months. Ortegon said he canโt wait to eat one of his momโs home-cooked meals.
