Despite tips and recommendations from fire officials about safely handling fireworks around New Yearโs Eve and New Yearโs Day, firefighters responded to dozens of fireworks-related incidents in unincorporated Bexar County and the 26 suburban cities.
Fire marshal suspects heater caused fire in East Bexar County storage facility
SAN ANTONIO โ The Bexar County Fire Marshal is blaming a heater for a fire that damaged several units at a commercial storage facility. It caused damage to as many as six units at the business, located on Highway 87 East near Stuart Road. Fire trucks lined the highway in front of the business as firefighters worked to put out the flames. Wednesday morning, some of the renters of the burned storage units returned to sort through the debris. However, a report from the fire marshal said there were six units as well as several vehicles that were damaged.
Bexar County residents keep these tips in mind when heating homes, fire marshal says
SAN ANTONIO โ With temperatures dropping below freezing in Bexar County this week, the Fire Marshalโs Office is advising residents to use caution when trying to stay warm. Bexar County Fire Marshal Chris Lopez said the number of house fires may increase around this time of year as people use potentially dangerous heating sources. โAs colder weather arrives, we begin to see an increase of home fires,โ Lopez said. Turn off and unplug space heaters when they will be unaccompanied, and make sure it has an automatic shutoff. The San Antonio Fire Department recommends that space heaters be plugged directly into a wall outlet.
Guadalupe County hosting free, walk-up COVID-19 testing site July 24

The mobile site will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or when tests run out at Lehnhoff Stadium under the home bleachers, according to the Guadalupe County Fire Marshalโs Office. The testing is being hosted by the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.
Man arrested for possession of explosive device at motel in Universal City
UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas โ A man with active felony warrants was arrested Wednesday at a motel in Universal City as part of a joint operation where an explosive device was found, the Bexar County Fire Marshalโs office said. Officers with the Universal City Police Department, among other agencies, arrested Joshua Faleide at a Super 8 motel in the 200 block of Palisades Drive. According to John Ortega, chief investigator with the Bexar County Fire Marshalโs office, the man was arrested in connection with two active felony warrants: possession of an explosive weapon, and possession of components of an explosive weapon, both third-degree felonies. Authorities searched this vehicle believed to belong to the suspect during an investigation into an explosive device at a motel in Universal City. Fire at NE Side Walmart may have been intentionally set, investigators say
SAN ANTONIO โ The Bexar County Sheriffโs Office and the Bexar County Fire Marshalโs Office are investigating a fire that may have been intentionally set at a Northeast Side Walmart late Sunday night. The fire was called in just before midnight at the Foster Road and Binz-Engleman Road location. Investigators said an employee saw a man enter just before the storeโs closing and then saw smoke. Authorities believe the man may have left through an open door on the side of the building. Investigators did not give a description of the suspect.
