UVALDE COUNTY, Texas – Uvalde Sheriff Charles Mendeke has issued a statement in response to claims made by a former employee, calling them "slanderous."
The statement comes in response to former Uvalde Sheriff's Office investigator Armando Garcia's lawsuit against Uvalde County and Mendeke.
Garcia claimed he was fired after trying to investigate a fellow deputy for allegedly using drugs and tampering with evidence.
In the recent written statement, Mendeke said Garcia was terminated because he encouraged another deputy to lie during an internal investigation.
