Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mike OโBrien has stepped down from his post โeffective immediately,โ according to an email University President Cynthia Teniente-Matson sent to faculty and staff Thursday. The University of Texas at San Antonio recently announced that it will hold in-person commencement ceremonies for graduates, but guests will not be allowed. San Antonio College will have its commencement in person at 11 a.m. on May 8 at the San Antonio College campus. University of the Incarnate WordGraduates will be honored with in-person, outdoor graduation ceremonies on May 7-8 at Benson Stadium.
Texas A&M System to offer free COVID-19 testing to students, faculty and staff
COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Texas A&M University System has announced that it will offer free COVID-19 testing to its students, faculty and staff. Approximately 15,000 test kits will be sent to system campuses each month, which includes Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Ensuring the health and safety of our students is our top priority, said John Sharp, chancellor of the Texas A&M University System. Testing could start later this week, and is the result of a partnership with Curative Inc., a national testing company based in California. The school says the tests will be free but those who have insurance are encouraged to use their primary care physician so that their test can be paid for by insurance.
College Graduates 2020: La-Tieka Sims
SAN ANTONIO La-Tieka Sims has always been involved in student government at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She was the student body president, president of the Student Government Association and also the treasurer of the Delta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. Long term, I want to run for office, said La-Tieka Sims, Texas A&M University San Antonio graduate. I really want to push for women and especially women of color, said Sims. It baffles me sometimes about how long it has taken for even our city council to look the way it looks.
College Graduates 2020: Jeffrey Martรญnez
Jeffrey Martรญnez said his dream began at a very young age and was accomplished in the fall of 2013, however, Martรญnez said something was still missing. โLiterally, I graduated college on a Saturday, and I started teaching (at Harlandale High School) that Tuesday right after,โ Martรญnez said. Martรญnez is a high school math teacher. โI sponsored the class of 2016 at Harlandale,โ Martรญnez said. โOnly one other person has received their Masters, and she was also a math teacher and a high school counselor.
