Baby alligator found abandoned near South Side home

Exotic animals prohibited in City of San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Animal Care Services officials found a baby American alligator Wednesday morning at a South Side property.

The alligator was found in a dirty aquarium on a property off Commercial Avenue.

ACS officials said the alligator was unresponsive and freezing to the touch.  

It was found in a glass tank filled with dead fish behind a vacant house.  

Possession of exotic animals, including crocodiles and alligators, is prohibited in San Antonio.

State officials also regulate hunting the reptiles. 

ACS officials did not say what led them to the property.
