SAN ANTONIO – It's the number one liver disease in the nation, and in San Antonio.
Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease affects 40% of San Antonio residents.
"It's a huge epidemic that's sweeping our country," said Stephen Harrison, MD, Medical Director at Pinnacle Clinical Research.
Harrison said NAFLD encompasses fat in the liver, fatty liver with inflammation, fatty liver with scarring, sorosis and liver cancer.
He said it's linked to obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure, all of which are big problems in San Antonio.
