Man robs Northeast Side tobacco shop at gunpoint, police say
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a man who robbed a Northeast Side tobacco shop late Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the Tobacco House in the 1300 block of Austin Highway, not far from Eisenhauer Road and Harry Wurzbach Road. According to police, the man walked into the store brandishing a handgun and demanded money. The man stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot, police said. The investigation into the robbery is ongoing, police said.
SAPD: Pedestrian dies while crossing San Antonio roadway
According to police, a man died when walking across Austin Highway early Friday evening. The incident occurred at 2200 Austin Highway around 9:40 p.m. on Friday. Officials say, a vehicle traveling northbound on Austin Highway struck the pedestrian when he was crossing. The driver of the vehicle did stop to check the pedestrian but he died at the scene, according to police. Police say they are ruling the incident an accident and the driver will not be charged.mysanantonio.com

Woman Pushing Shopping Cart Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck on Austin Highway, Police Say
click to enlarge ShutterstockA woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck on Austin Highway late Sunday night, authorities told KSAT The woman, 53, was walking on the 1750 block of Austin Highway where she was struck by a 1996 black Ford Ranger that was traveling northeast. She was pronounced dead at the scene.The San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.Police told KSAT the motorist couldn't see the woman because it was dark. The driver did however stop to help, and no charges are expected to be filed.The name of the woman has yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin.sacurrent.com

Man found unresponsive after hit-and-run, police say
SAN ANTONIO - A man who police say is in his mid-30s was struck in the 1800 block of Austin Highway Thursday night, according to San Antonio police. A sergeant at the scene said a passerby spotted the man, who was unresponsive. The man was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center with possible life-threatening injuries after what police are calling a hit-and-run. San Antonio police find SUV possibly involved in fatal hit-and-runHe was riding a bike and pushing a shopping cart when he was struck, police said. There are currently no known witnesses and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Roach problem leads to threat of closure of NE Side Asian buffet
SAN ANTONIO - City health officials issued a failing score and threatened to shut down a Northeast Side Asian restaurant last month after uncovering a long list of issues. Officials noted that the restaurant would be temporarily closed if it was unable to remove the presence of roaches.
