NEW YORK โ One of the five teens wrongly imprisoned for the assault on a Central Park jogger has a memoir coming out in the spring. The five Black and Latino teens were coerced into confessing to a rape they didnโt commit in 1989. Ken Burns made a documentary about them and Ava DuVernay directed a Netflix series. โOne of the most powerful lessons I learned while being wrongfully incarcerated was that instead of going through something, I was going to grow through something," Salaam said in a statement. โPunching the Air,โ co-written by Ibi Zoboi, came out in September.
Suspect arrested in attack on actor Rick Moranis
NEW YORK โ A New York man was arrested Saturday in connection with an unprovoked assault against Rick Moranis that occurred as the 67-year-old actor was walking near Central Park in October. New York City police said 35-year-old Marquis Ventura, whom authorities listed as homeless, was arrested Saturday afternoon. It wasn't known if Ventura had retained an attorney who could comment. Video released by police showed a man wearing a black โI (heart) NYโ sweatshirt hit Moranis with a sucker punch and knock him to the ground. Police didn't identify Moranis at the time, but Moranis's representative, Troy Bailey, confirmed the actor had been attacked.

NEW YORK โ Actor Rick Moranis was sucker punched by an unknown assailant while walking Thursday on a sidewalk near New York's Central Park, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press. The attack happened just a few blocks from the Central Park West apartment building where Moranis' character lived in the movie. Moranisโ representative Troy Bailey said in a written statement Friday: โRick Moranis was assaulted on the Upper West Side yesterday. Police describe the incident as a โrandom unprovoked assault.โMoranis was attacked while walking south on Central Park West. Moranis suffered back, hip, neck and head pain, though the full extent of his injuries was not clear, the official said.

Anthony was unveiled in Central Park on Wednesday, becoming the 167-year-old parks first monument honoring historical heroines, as opposed to fictional female characters like Alice in Wonderland and Shakespeares Juliet. The commission from Monumental Women, a nonprofit that formed in 2014 to raise funds for a suffragist statue in Central Park, originally included just Stanton and Anthony, two white leaders of the fight for women's equality. Truth, a Black woman who escaped slavery and went on to campaign for abolition as well as women's rights, was a late addition.
