'Deadpool,' 'The Jungle Book,' 'X-Men Apocalypse' debut in 2016

SAN ANTONIO – 2016 is a going to be a big year for films, with many highly anticipated releases scheduled throughout the year. 

Starting the year off is “Kung Fu Panda 3,” which will be released Jan. 29.

February has three big releases, with “Zoolander 2,” “Eddie the Eagle” and the highly anticipated “Deadpool,” starring Ryan Reynolds, which will hit theaters Feb. 12.

The Divergent Series continues with the third installment in the franchise on March 18, and on March 25, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be released. 

One of Disney’s big blockbusters for the year, “The Jungle Book,” starring Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o and Idris Elba, comes out April 15. “The Huntsman Winters War” debuts April 22.

May has three big releases, with “Captain America: Civil War” on May 6, and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “X-Men Apocalypse” both on May 27.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” “Finding Dory” and “Independence Day: Resurgence” all debut in June.

July has three big blockbuster releases with “The Legend of Tarzan” on July 1, “Ghostbusters” on July 15 and “Star Trek Beyond” on July 22.

August closes out the summer blockbusters with the highly anticipated “Suicide Squad” on Aug. 5 starring Jared Leto, Will Smith, Ben Affleck and Margot Robbie.

“Doctor Strange,” a Marvel movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch, comes out Nov. 4.

The Harry Potter spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” debuts Nov. 18.

The year will conclude with another blockbuster, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” on Dec. 16.
