Weekend wrap of events for July 8-9

SAN ANTONIO – Only a couple of events take place outdoors this weekend as many are in the nice, cool comfort of air conditioning.

Here's a look at some of the events taking place the weekend of July 8-9:

Balcones Heights Jazz Festival: This music series takes place every Friday in July at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall Amphitheater. Performing this week is guitarist Ruben V and trumpeter Rick Braun.

Hairspray: This musical will be in production at the San Pedro Playhouse. If you miss the show this weekend, no worries, the productions runs through August 6.

75th Anniversary of Historic Guadalupe Theater: The party begins at 7 p.m. on Friday night. It will feature film shorts, dance and music. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Kickin for a Kure Concert: The Kickin for a Kure Foundation hosts their annual concert fundraiser. This year the event will take place at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall on Saturday. Tickets are still available. Headliners this year include Reba McEntire and Clay Walker.

Tracy Lawrence: The country singer will be at Cowboys Dancehall Saturday night. Reserved seating is sold out, but there are general admission tickets still available.

Free Family Day Summer Block Party: This family friendly event takes place at the McNay Art Museum. It runs from 1 to 4 p.m. The entire family can take part in art making, sidewalk chalk and lawn games.
