SA Zoo offers larger-than-life fun at 'Bug Mania'

Showcase offers 19 giant bugs, artifacts

SAN ANTONIO – Giant scorpions, tarantulas, grasshoppers and other insects have taken over the San Antonio Zoo.

The gigantic replicas are scattered all around and guests can get a close-up look at the bugs.

"We're real excited to bring 'Bug Mania' to our city," director of public relations Chuck Cureau said.

Along with a look at each animatronic, there are several informational stations with artifacts and live bugs.

"Bug Mania" runs until September 3, and isn't the only activity at the zoo this summer. A summer camp is available for the kids and every Friday night the zoo will host, 'Jungle Boogie Nights'.

"Jungle Boogie Nights is an opportunity for people to come out when the sun starts to go down," Cureau said. "We have a live band, food trucks, giant-sized games; it's just an opportunity for people to come and have a great time."
