McManus honored for efforts to curb family violence

Police Chief receives award from Texas Advocacy Group

SAN ANTONIO – Police Chief Bill McManus was honored Tuesday for his efforts to help combat family violence in San Antonio.

The Texas Advocacy Project awarded it's All-Star Advocacy Award to McManus.

The group said the policies set and the changes the department has made has helped those in need.

City Manager Sheryl Sculley nominated McManus for the award. She said some of the practices in place can be an example for other cities.

"We are sure working hard to reduce the numbers of incidents and it's not just with the city alone or the police department alone, it's with our community partners: the district attorney's office, the family justice center the shelter for women and battered children," Sculley said.

McManus was not at the award ceremony. He was recovering from surgery.
