Woman dies in suspected DWI crash

Driver arrested, faces intoxication manslaughter charges

SAN ANTONIO – A man suspected of driving drunk crashed his car overnight, killing his passenger.

It happened just before midnight in the 800 block of Bandera, on the city's Northwest side, police said.

An officer on patrol saw a Toyota Corolla speed by going between 80 and 100 mph.

Before that officer could catch up, the car slammed into a pickup and rolled several times before going through a wrought iron fence at James Madison Elementary.

Ashley Izaguirre, 25, the only passenger in the car, was rushed to the hospital and died about an hour later, police said.

When the patrol officer arrived, he said 25-year-old Danny Wayne Johnson was crawling out from under the Corolla.

Johnson was taken to the hospital for treatment and for a mandatory blood draw.

Police said he'll be charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The two people in the pickup received minor injuries.
