SAN ANTONIO – Some of the smaller haunted houses around town were also a big hit on Halloween.
One local family on Donaldson Street boasted one house, complete with handmade props.
Gale Atherton said he has been putting his mini haunted house up for the last three years and he takes a lot of pride in his work.
"I made the coffin," said Atherton. "I made all of that out of wood. I designed all the skeletons and hung them up."
The house includes handmade woodwork and carefully thought-out decorations.
Atherton said his house is scary, but not scary enough to keep the trick-or-treaters out.
"My daughter likes to come and see all the skeletons and the balloons," said Elizabeth Atherton. "She loves her grandpa and she likes to come over here and get candy of course."
Gale said all the work is worth it, not only for his own grandchildren, but the entire neighborhood.
Some of the parents who brought their kids by Atherton's house on Halloween said they knew to come here.
"We know that Donaldson Street is always giving lots of candy always," said Judy. "It's the best street ever."
